Advanced Training in Primary Spine Care

Dr. Kovacs earned a Fellowship in Primary Spine Care after completing an extensive two-year postgraduate program involving medical and chiropractic academia through the State University of New York at Buffalo, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and Cleveland University-Kansas City, College of Chiropractic.

The fellowship included advanced education in:

  • MRI, CT, and radiographic interpretation
  • spinal trauma and injury assessment
  • electrodiagnostic testing and clinical correlation
  • spinal biomechanics
  • neurological and vascular conditions affecting the spine
  • co-morbidity assessment
  • differential diagnosis
  • collaborative management of complex spinal disorders

This training supports a broader clinical approach to patients with both straightforward musculoskeletal complaints and more complex spine-related presentations.

MRI Interpretation and Clinical Correlation

Dr. Kovacs has completed advanced postgraduate training in MRI interpretation and the clinical correlation of imaging findings.

In practice, imaging is interpreted in the context of the patient’s history, examination findings, mechanism of injury, neurological findings, and functional limitations. Particular attention is given to conditions such as disc herniation, nerve root compromise, spinal stenosis, degenerative changes, and traumatic spinal injury.

When advanced imaging is clinically indicated, the goal is not simply to identify abnormalities on an MRI, but to determine whether those findings help explain the patient’s symptoms and whether they should alter treatment, additional testing, referral, or co-management.

Motor Vehicle Accident and Trauma Care

A significant portion of Dr. Kovacs’ clinical practice involves evaluating and treating patients injured in motor vehicle collisions.

His postgraduate education includes spinal trauma, injury biomechanics, MRI interpretation, concussion and mild traumatic brain injury, causality assessment, and the documentation of functional loss following injury.

Patients may present with conditions including:

  • whiplash-associated disorders
  • cervical and lumbar spine pain
  • disc injuries
  • radicular symptoms
  • headaches
  • soft-tissue injuries
  • concussion-related symptoms
  • persistent functional limitations following trauma

Care is individualized according to examination findings, diagnostic testing when indicated, patient progress, and clinical response.

Clinical Philosophy

Dr. Kovacs’ approach to care is based on several principles:

  • listen carefully to the patient’s history and concerns
  • perform a thorough clinical examination
  • use diagnostic testing when clinically indicated
  • correlate imaging findings with the patient’s symptoms and examination
  • begin with conservative treatment whenever appropriate
  • monitor objective and functional progress
  • modify care when progress does not occur as expected
  • coordinate with medical specialists when additional evaluation or treatment is necessary

The goal is to identify the likely source of a patient’s symptoms, provide appropriate conservative care, and help the patient understand the reasoning behind clinical recommendations.

Chiropractic and Physical Therapy Under One Roof

Eatontown Elite Care Center offers both chiropractic care and one-on-one physical therapy.

Physical therapy services are available independently and do not require a patient to also receive chiropractic treatment. When clinically appropriate, coordinated chiropractic and physical therapy care can provide a broader rehabilitation approach for patients recovering from spine injuries, sports injuries, motor vehicle collisions, surgery, and other musculoskeletal conditions.

Treatment recommendations are based on the individual patient’s presentation and progress rather than a predetermined treatment schedule.

Areas of Care

Dr. Kovacs provides conservative evaluation and treatment for a broad range of spine, joint, and musculoskeletal conditions. Care is individualized according to the patient’s history, examination findings, functional limitations, and response to treatment.

Spine and Musculoskeletal Care

Common conditions evaluated and treated include neck pain, back pain, headaches, sciatica, radicular symptoms, disc-related conditions, spinal stenosis, degenerative changes, scoliosis, joint pain, and soft-tissue injuries.

Motor Vehicle Accident Injuries

Dr. Kovacs has extensive postgraduate training in the evaluation and management of injuries following motor vehicle collisions. Patients may present with whiplash-associated disorders, cervical and lumbar injuries, disc injuries, headaches, radicular complaints, soft-tissue trauma, and persistent functional limitations.

Sports and Activity-Related Injuries

Care is also provided for sports injuries, repetitive strain, overuse conditions, and other musculoskeletal problems affecting the spine and extremities. Treatment and rehabilitation are tailored to the individual’s activity level, goals, and clinical findings.

Conservative Treatment Options

Depending on the condition and clinical findings, treatment may include chiropractic manipulation, flexion-distraction, instrument-assisted techniques, one-on-one physical therapy, therapeutic exercise, shockwave therapy, cold laser therapy, and other conservative rehabilitation approaches.

When additional evaluation is indicated, Dr. Kovacs may recommend diagnostic imaging, electrodiagnostic testing, or referral to another healthcare specialist.

I highly recommend Dr. Kovacs! About 2 years ago, I had whiplash when the car I was in suddenly stopped. I could hardly move and was having unbearable back and neck pain. Dr. Kovacs explained the treatment to me and he was able to address the pain. The office staff, Kim and Marianny are very professional and friendly too!

Dr. Ryan is EXCELLENT. Professional, patient, kind, hard working, and goes the extra mile for his patients. I greatly appreciate the time he spent helping me to feel better and to get back in the gym. He goes above and beyond for his patients. Was able to accommodate me during a hectic work day that I had which I greatly appreciated. Dr. Ryan is dedicated and spends a lot of time treating his patients and helping his patients get back to baseline. I greatly appreciate his superb care. Not your average therapist. Stellar personalized care fit to each patient’s need- not a cookie cutter PT practice. Highly recommend for all athletes as well as other individuals seeking excellent meaningful, productive care.
